It’s pretty clear that gingham has made quite a comeback, and at first I was sure the little checkered print wasn’t for me. It’s pretty clear that I’m not the preppy type, and gingham brings to mind seersucker shorts and southern frat boys, which is enough to make me barf. Thankfully, many of my favorite designers have taken the gingham print and transformed it into something a little edgier and more fashion forward.
The second I saw this jumpsuit, I had to have it. For Love & Lemons can do no wrong, and I like how they elevated the gingham print with a more modern silhouette with this jumpsuit. The cropped flare on the bottom has been a favorite style of mine this season, and I love the playful neckline with little buttons and ruffles on the sleeve. You could wear a bralette with this, but I personally prefer it as is.
For sizing – I got a small, and I did find it to be a little tighter through the thighs than I would have liked. The garment is 100% cotton, so although it’s light and comfortable, there’s no stretch in the fabric. However, it didn’t bother me enough to get a medium because then I knew the top wouldn’t fit and I’d have to get some major alterations.
So – back to the gingham trend. When it comes to trendy prints or colors I usually start by looking to my favorite designers to figure out how I could style the trend while remaining true to my personal style. Do some google or Pinterest searching and find out who is making clothes that are “so you.”Then, seek them out! I would rather have 5 pieces in my closet that are completely me and make me happy than have 50 trendy items that I only wore once.
When it comes to styling unique pieces like this one, don’t be afraid to try something new. For example, I never wear my hair up – especially not on the blog! I always feel like it looks awful. But something about this jumpsuit screamed messy updo to me, so I went for it and I love how it turned out. Plus, then you can really see the ruffle detailing on the sleeves.
