At the beginning of March, I spent five beautiful days at Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya Resort. It was my first time at an all-inclusive resort, so I was excited to see what it was like! The trip was in collaboration with the resort as well as Amstar and Apple Vacations. If you’re a Top Chef fan, you may recognize Secrets Akumal as the location for the finale this season! As a result, the resort planned a big watch party complete with specially crafted cocktails, appetizers, a red carpet, and a giant screen for all the guests to watch.
It’s no surprise that Bravo chose Secrets Akumal as the location for the filming, as the resort is known for its excellent food and wine. Usually when I go to Mexico, I eat tacos for just about every meal, so I was surprised to see that the resort offered many different choices of cuisine, and only one Mexican restaurant!
Actually, throughout the trip we got to try many different types of food, but the most notable was a food and wine pairing dinner that was comprised of mainly French cuisine. It was outstanding.
Check out my full post with all my outfits from the trip here.
This is the room they call the “wine cellar” and it’s located inside the Bordeaux restaurant at Secrets Akumal. You can actually reserve this room and have a wine and food pairing dinner of your very own! The staff is very knowledgeable about wine, so if you’re a big wine drinker (or want to learn more beyond “hmm it tastes like wine!”), I highly recommend it!
This is a view from the beach (obviously). Our first morning at the resort, we came out here for beach yoga. It was a great way to start the day!
View from the balcony in my room. Each room has its own Nespresso machine, so you can bet I took advantage of that and had my coffee out here every morning!
One of the things that I found so funny about the all-inclusive resort is that you go to restaurants and order room service just like normal – the only difference is there’s no bill! So, it’s definitely easy to get carried away like Abby and I did with room service breakfast…
There’s no shortage of amazing views and very “grammable” spots! The resort is truly made for relaxation. If you’re looking for adventure, they offer some excursions and things you can do, but honestly on the beach or by the pool is where you wanna be!
Usually when I go on vacation, I try to do all the things. My days are packed with activities and sight seeing and checking items off my list. So, it was very nice to be forced to relax for a change. I felt so rejuvenated when I returned home.
The spa was truly a special treat for me. Even if you aren’t getting a spa service, you can still take advantage of the hydrotherapy pools. These are a spa service on their own, but paired with a massage or something, it’s heaven. There are a series of pools and different jets and temperatures, and if you alternate with the sauna and steam room, it’s a really unique experience. My massage was quite possibly the most relaxing experience in the world. While you’re there, you’re treated to relaxing areas that offer snacks, drinks, and chlorophyl water, which was something new to me! It’s actually pretty delicious.
The resort was beautiful, the food was great, but most notable for me was the impeccable service. Everyone I met at the resort, from the landscape team to the concierge were so welcoming, friendly, kind, and went above and beyond from check it to check out. They truly make you feel right at home!
If you’re looking for a relaxing vacation that is the epitome of luxury, this is the spot for you! Plus, it’s really convenient to get to Cancun these days, especially from Denver. If you make the trip, be sure to check out all the restaurants and learn some dance moves at the onsite nightclub, Desires 😉
