I don’t often embrace casual dressing as much as I probably should. Truth be told, I really only have two modes: the dressed up, carefully planned outfits you see here on the blog, and yoga pants with a tee shirt. There’s not much in between there. Pretty much the minute I get home from anywhere, it’s a race to see how quickly I get get into my comfiest clothes.
Nice, put-together lady to total bum in 0.5 seconds.
But lately, I’ve been very mindful of investing in quality basics that I really love that can elevate my casual “off-duty” look so I can stop avoiding people in the grocery store when I roll up in my college sweats and old UGG boots. (Don’t judge!)
Finding the best v-neck tee was definitely a start. T-shirts for me are for one thing: sassy phrases. But, it’s so nice to have some simple basic pocket tees to keep your wardrobe grounded. (is that a thing?) So, here is what I have deemed the best v-neck tee. The best part is that it’s only $24. It’s a great fabric, not too clingy, not too loose, has a deep-v (but not too deep!) an overall two thumbs up from me.
I found this Free People faux leather jacket at Nordstrom Rack a while ago, and it’s definitely a staple of mine in spring and fall here in Denver. The black version of this jacket is currently on sale here, btw! I would consider this a “basic” but the green color and detachable hood definitely make it stand out a bit more. You’d be surprised how many things you can wear a green jacket with! (More leather jacket options here)
Another classic casual piece? Denim fo sho. Jeans are definitely difficult for most women, but I have found Madewell to be one brand that is usually very flattering on my body type. It’s always hard for me to find jeans that can encompass my booty and legs without having a huge gap in the waist (anyone else?!?) I sized down 2 sizes in these Madewell jeans and I love them. I was nervous about the button fly (I thought it might start to stretch apart and look like I was bursting at the seams), but turns out this pair is my new favorite! Patrick loves them on me too, which always makes a girl feel good 😉
So while this outfit still isn’t nearly as comfy as my yoga pants or sweats, at least I feel good running around in it and I won’t have to hide out behind a tower of tortilla chip bags every time I see someone I know in Whole Foods…
